Core Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for enforcing city laws and ordinances relating to property maintenance, housing standards, lodging regulations, environmental health, zoning, weeds, unwanted and abandoned vehicles, and nuisance, animal and park code ordinances.
Actively patrol the City’s streets, open spaces, parks and trail system.
Respond to citizen questions and concerns regarding code issues. Proactively provide positive customer service to the development community, property owners, members of the public, and other city and government agencies to understand city laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
Respond to, investigate and remedy complaints received from citizens, officials and City employees regarding violations of the code; mediate and intervene to resolve potential conflicts. Conduct on-site inspections and verify compliance with ordinances, regulations and proposed plans; conduct follow-up inspections to ensure violations are mitigated, modified, discontinued or removed; take legal action for persistent violations.
Notify owners or their legal representatives of violations of applicable regulations and ordinances and explain changes that must be made to comply. Order compliance with, reduction, discontinuation, removal or modification of terms that violate applicable ordinances, laws and regulations; issue verbal warnings, written warnings and summons in case of violation of the code.
Prepare reports documenting the investigative work performed; prepare and document code violations for court cases; testify in court as a witness or plaintiff.
