Deputy Head of Community Services job at Runnymede Borough Council

We are looking for a competent and experienced manager to provide effective leadership to our Community Services operating business unit, which includes Community Day Centers and Community Transportation, Open and Green Spaces, Community Development, Museum.

This role is responsible for the efficient and cost-effective management, development, operation and delivery of the Council’s community services, including its assets – buildings, vehicles and office space. You will ensure that operational services are delivered with quality services, meeting resident needs and desired outcomes, within the legislative parameters applied and with full consideration of health and safety and other risks. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing operational or public services at a senior level and experience working at a senior level within multi-agency partnerships.

Additionally, the role includes:

  • Support the implementation of relevant priorities identified in the councils corporate strategies, including its health and wellness strategy
  • Lead the implementation of Resident Emergency Welfare in the Borough and deputize for the Head of Corporate Department, as Council Welfare Officer, as part of a multi-response Borough emergency agencies
  • Lead the partnership and effective management of an inter-borough partnership with Surrey Heath Borough Council, providing services to residents of two boroughs
  • Work with elected officials on the development of initiatives and new services to be offered within the borough/partnership, and attend committee meetings as needed, which are usually in the evening. There is also a requirement to work occasional non-social hours, both evenings and weekends.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrable experience leading various teams/service areas
  • Experience in health and safety management related to a community activity or service delivery
  • An understanding of the role of borough council departments and the pressures local governments face
  • Advanced leadership and management skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence, resolve conflict, compromise, and provide guidance and direction as needed
